My APR Surgery (Aka Barbie Butt Surgery)
Sharing my experience with intersphincteric APR surgery, also known as Barbie Butt surgery. I had a total colectomy with ileostomy prior to this surgery due to my Ulcerative Colitis. I hope this video is able to help someone who might be facing the same surgery. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

    Just watched your video. I have had an ileostomy for over 50 years due to my sphincter muscles not working. This is because I was born with Spina Bifida. I enjoyed your video because you described the procedures you had in a calm and understandable way. I find anything related to medicine and surgery fascinating, so none the information you gave was "too much information) in my opinion. Many prayers for a complete recovery and healing from the surgery. Side note - I thought it was cute when your husbands fingers made an appearance in the videos. 🙂

    I'm 3 and a half months out from APR due to rectal cancer, my incision is healed finally, but I still have pain when sitting for not so long periods of time, and phantom bowel movements - the feeling like I'm going to have a bm out of my bum is still there, though not as often. I had my uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes removed as well as half of my vagina due to the tumor. My bum felt the same as you described, but has already flattened out nicely. There are videos on you tube that show APR surgery. Hoping you are doing well.

    I had this surgery in 1995. First had ostomy surgery in 1983. For Crohn’s disease. Then had flair and needed to have rectum removed for reasons you explained. In those days stitches were used. No other options. Stitches “pulled” and since there were no sitting options for comfort. Just sat on fluffy bed pillow. Can honestly say discomfort was no worse than any other surgery. Complete healing toon couple of months. Can honestly say the peace of mind of no cancer risk and the worry of constant mucous drainage being wiped away was worth a few weeks of discomfort and healing. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Occasionally I get phantom pulsating in area which can be annoying but NOT painful at all. So thankful medical science has come so far. Glad you’ve adjusted to the stoma. I named mine “Fred”. He gave me back my life after 7 years of being bedridden and in and out of hospitals. Best wishes for a smooth recovery,

    You are such a trooper! I feel for you with the period thing! I had an anal abscess and fistula surgery with my IBD/Crohns/Perianal disease, and the next day I got my period... it was a lot. It seems every time I end up in the hospital with something related to my perianal disease, I get my period. My body doesn't like me, or my uterus is just a jealous bi*ch and wants to get in on the attention, lol. I'm currently waiting for my 5th surgery on my butthole, yay. I have had a draining/bleeding fistula for 4 years now, I'm ready to just be done with this. Sometimes I feel like I just want to barbie butt myself and rid myself of the added stress, anxiety, challenge and complication of my buttholes. Of course that comes with it's own challenges and complications. IBD is no joke! Thank you for sharing your experience 💜

    Alison- I was watching your recovery from annul removal surgery. Are you able to carry a pregnancy to term? What are the ramifications of your surgery as far as other functions the body does, I find your channel so informative and I appreciate all the details you included. Your husband seems to be a wonderful supportive partner and that is so great. I think it might be interesting for him to take a picture of your Barbie Butt so you as well as other people who have to undergo a similar operation see what the end result looks like. And give a copy to your surgeon so she can show the results to other patients. Thank you for sharing your story.

  • @helengarrett6378
    @helengarrett6378 2 дня назад

    Others have suggested "Lets Talk IBD," but I want to emphasize that Maggie, who had this surgery because of crohns disease, was a nurse and has more information than just her own surgery. You have researched this pretty well, and I don't know what additional information she can provide for you, but more info. can't hurt. Maggie also talkes about vaginal pooling and intimacy after surgery. Right now you aren't thinking about intamacy, but eventually you will. Maggie needed to see a pelvic floor therapist to deal with problems she encountered. Good luck, though you have gone through surgery at the time I'm writing this, and you are recovering. She had complications with popped stitches during her recovery, but is feeling well now and is pregnant with her first child. As for coming home early, hospitals are notorious places for encountering germs. You'd think home would not be better but it is, because there are fewer sick people, and in fact, fewer people entirely.
